Co-op Multiplayer Guide: Tips for Playing with Friends

StarRupture resource extraction operations on Arcadia-7

StarRupture supports 1-4 players in online co-op, and playing with a team transforms the experience. Tasks that feel overwhelming solo become manageable when split between friends. This guide covers how to optimize your co-op experience, from role distribution to coordinated combat.

Role Distribution

While characters in StarRupture are currently cosmetic-only (no mechanical stat differences), players can still specialize through their activities and corporation focus. One player can focus on factory building and Selenian progression. Another can specialize in combat and Griffits Blue progression. A third can handle exploration and blueprint collection. A fourth can manage logistics and Clever Robotics progression. This division of labor accelerates overall progress dramatically.

Shared Progression

Corporation progression is shared across the team, meaning everyone benefits when any player makes a delivery or spends points at the Corporate Terminal. This makes specialization even more powerful because each player's focused effort contributes to the group's overall unlock progression. Coordinate which corporations to prioritize and avoid duplicating delivery efforts.

Task Splitting During Gameplay

During the Normal phase, split your team between tasks. Send the combat-focused player on exploration runs to grab blueprints and LEMs. Have the factory player manage production lines and fulfill deliveries. During Wave Warning, everyone should converge at base for defense. Assign defensive positions: one player covers each approach with turret support, and the Medtool user rotates to whoever takes damage.

Coordinated Combat

Co-op combat is where the game really shines. Against Goliath bosses, one player acts as the tank, drawing the Goliath's attention from the front while the other players circle behind to attack its exposed backside. The Medtool user keeps the tank alive while damage dealers focus fire. Designate one player as the Exploder watcher, responsible for shooting Exploders before they reach the group and disable everyone's shields.

For swarm defense, establish overlapping fields of fire. Have shotgun users cover chokepoints while rifle users handle ranged threats like Spitters and Flingers. Everyone should throw Grenades into dense enemy clusters for maximum AoE impact. Call out your reload timing so teammates can cover your sector while you are vulnerable.

Base Design for Co-op

With more players, you need more interior facilities. Build additional Personal Storage units so everyone has inventory space. Multiple Regeneration Chambers help the team heal up faster between fights. A LEM Station works for the whole team, but only one person can use it at a time, so take turns during Ruptura downtime. Consider building a larger habitat with multiple Airlocks so everyone can get inside quickly during emergencies.

Scaling Difficulty

Remember that Vermin aggression scales with base size and activity level. A four-player team typically builds a larger, more active base than a solo player, which means significantly fiercer Vermin attacks. Scale your defensive capabilities accordingly. More turrets, more ammo production, and coordinated defense are all essential when playing with a full squad.
